Telegram proxy FAQ
Short answers, including the uncomfortable ones.
Is a free Telegram proxy safe?
The proxy cannot read your chats: Telegram encrypts traffic with its own MTProto protocol before it ever reaches the proxy. The server owner only sees that you use Telegram, your IP address and the amount of traffic. They cannot read messages, access your account or alter your chats. One thing to know: a proxy owner may show you a sponsored channel — that is allowed by Telegram and is not a compromise.
Why did a proxy that worked yesterday stop working?
Free proxies are run by volunteers on rented servers. The IP can get blocked, the hosting bill can run out, or the owner simply shuts it down. That is why this list rebuilds itself: every server is re-tested every 15 minutes and dead ones disappear.
Does a proxy slow Telegram down?
Slightly — traffic takes one extra hop. The latency column shows how much: under 150 ms is imperceptible, 150–400 ms is only noticeable on calls and large files. The list is sorted by latency, so the fastest servers are always on top.
Why MTProto instead of SOCKS5?
MTProto was built by Telegram specifically to defeat blocking. It masks traffic, needs no login, and the 'ee' (FakeTLS) variant looks like an ordinary visit to an HTTPS website to any observer. SOCKS5 has none of that and is far easier to filter.
What do dd and ee mean in the secret?
They are masking modes. No prefix is the classic mode. 'dd' pads every packet with random bytes to hide packet-length patterns. 'ee' is FakeTLS: the proxy impersonates a real HTTPS site, with the cover domain encoded in the secret itself. For heavy filtering, 'ee' works best.
Do I need to register or pay?
No. No signup, no subscription, no phone number. Press Connect and Telegram opens with the proxy ready to apply.
The proxy will not connect — what now?
Try another server from the list first; that fixes it most of the time. If it does not: make sure Telegram is set to MTProto rather than SOCKS5, check that the secret was copied in full, and restart the app. 'ee' servers get through where others fail.
Does this work on desktop?
Yes. The link works in Telegram Desktop and the macOS app exactly as on a phone. If you opened this site on a computer but use Telegram on your phone, scan the QR code next to the server.
